Shaolin Death
Squad
Galaxy Club (Halloween 2003?)
I've heard nothing but good things about these guys & really enjoyed hearing them play - the hype is true, they are certainly a breath of fresh air. Plus I love the visual art element that represents them (Didn't know what "Djugdish" was until i read their bio! :)
I found a review of a performance at Reign Complex with SpoonFed Tribe {4-30-04}:
"The hippies took over the Reign Entertainment Complex Friday night in Denton. There was dancing, tribal drumming and a communal atmosphere that made this evening of music more of a happening than just a rock show.
Starting out the festivities was Shaolin Death Squad whose brand of thinking man’s rock has started a small buzz around the Metroplex. Dressed in Oriental robes and eerie, China doll masks, SDS gave the small crowd a tight show. It’s impossible to accurately describe their music as they draw on numerous influences: metal, rock, punk, jazz, Spanish and ambient. Drummer Matt Thompson showed why he is the best rock drummer around town by adding cymbal flourishes and double bass action the whole set. Vocalist/keyboardist Androo O’Hearn took a page from the Mike Patton technique book and used several different vocal effects on every song that made his voice a fifth instrument. SDS always plays something for music fans so do check them out at their next show."
